The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has read a riot act to criminal elements in the state, warning them to turn a new leaf or face the full weight of the law.

He made the declaration during the launch of Operation Kpochapu 2 at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.

Obiano warned those with questionable characters, including kidnappers, armed robbers, cultists, pick pockets, and one-chance syndicates, to leave Anambra for good, assuring that the 2nd phase of Operation Kpochapu II would be deadlier.

Gov. Obiano handed over 112 sophisticated security (operational) vehicles, 71 well equipped motorbikes, CCTV cameras, each with the radius or capacity of overseeing 4 football fields at a time, and three waste disposal vehicles (Dura patchers) to the Inspector General of Police and other Service Chiefs from the Army, Navy, Airforce, Civil Defence, Federal Road Safety, NDLEA, among others.

He declared that within the last five years Anambra had maintained an enviable position as the safest state in Nigeria and called on security agents to ensure that the second phase of Operation Kpochapu would give the state greater benefits and keep her ever on top among the states of the federation on security issues.

‘I will want Ndi Anambra and our guests, especially those who live and work here in Anambra and those on visit or holidays, to sleep with their two eyes closed,’ Obiano declared.
Expressing satisfaction with the success of the first phase, he said there was no way the tempo could not be higher now.

He also told of how a notorious kidnapper was arrested in a South Africa-bound plane at Murtala Mohammed Airport, Ikeja and eventually killed.

He promised that the second phase of the war against crime in the state would be holistic and deadlier, and encouraged the people to report acts of criminality anywhere in the state, even as he gave out numbers with which to call security agents on emergency.

Obiano promised Ndi Anambra a peaceful Christmas, while assuring that repairs on the roads would commence as soon as the rains stopped.

Receiving the vehicles and equipment from the governor, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, said he thought he was coming to receive just a few vehicles for the police, only to witness something unimaginable.

He promised that with the security gadgets and the security measures put in place, Anambra must know peace and assured that more security personnel would be sent to the state.

Earlier in his introductory speech, the image maker of the Nigeria Police, DCP Frank Mba, said what he saw at the commissioning was unprecedented.

His words, ‘In my over 2 decades of policing, I’ve never seen something as thrilling as this. Anambra is unarguably the safest State in the entire federation,’ Mba said.
