Eye Witnesses Laud Nigerian Army for Swift Response to the attack by anti-State elements against some journalists and others who were travelling in a chartered bus to cover the Nigeria-Libya AFCON qualifier Matches schedule for Friday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.
According to eyewitnesses account, the bus conveying the Journalists detoured into Imo State on his way to Uyo and was waylaid at Iseke Community in Ihiala during which, a Police officer and a Journalist were Killed.
The Army from Onitsha were subsequently contacted and swiftly went into action, they were able to rescue six of the people who have been abducted, further pressure from the Army troop led to the release of another four victims.
‘We reliably gathered that as at the time of this report, two of the abducted people are still missing.
‘However, the Army have their nose on the ground to sniff out the hideout of the criminal elements.
The eyewitnesses who spoke on the condition of anonymity was full of thanks for the Army for quickly responding to the distress call while appealing to people, especially those living in areas prone to such attacks and acts of banditry to report suspected individual, moves, and gathering that pose security threats to the Army and other security agencies since security is everybody’s responsibility.
‘We also gathered that technical and logistics support was offered by 34 Artillery brigade and 82 Division to the gallant troop from Onitsha Military Cantonment,’ they concluded.
