Joint security forces led by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have dislodged a camp operated by criminal elements at Ogbunka Community in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

A press release by the spokesperson for Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the raid was as a result of intelligence reports gathered overtime.

He said the joint security team comprising soldiers from the 302 Artillery Regiment (GS); Navy, from the Naval Command; Department of State Security; Anambra State Vigilante; and others; carried out the raid on Friday, April 4.

Ikenga said: ‘The Joint Security Team in a six-hour gun battle with the armed criminals, overpowered the criminals and diffused some explosives used as shields on the camp by the hoodlums.

‘The team also recovered a lot of materials like pots, foodstuffs and parts of dismembered suspected stolen vehicles, even as some of the criminals escaped with various degrees of bullet injuries inflicted on them.’

The spokesman said security operatives had taken over the area to sustain security dominance with the aim of addressing any situation that may arise from the raid, and also to possibly arrest fleeing suspects.

He added that Anambra State Police Command had assured that the confidence reposed in the security agencies by Anambra People for the safety of their lives and properties would not be taken for granted.
