Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra has assured indigenes of the state of adequate security during the Yuletide season.
Obiano said he had eradicated kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state, urging indigenes of the state living in the diaspora not to shy away from returning home for the Yuletide.
The governor who spoke during a dedication service for St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Awka said, ‘We have improved security in Anambra State, so that people will feel safe during Christmas and New Year celebrations.”
Gov. Obiano who was represented by the state’s Head of Service (HOS), Barr Harry Udu, also assured civil servants of improved welfare during this year’s festive period.
‘We will give every civil servant in Anambra one bag of rice each this year, just as we have been doing every year.
‘And all salaries and leave allowances will be paid before December 15, including arrears owed to civil servants, to spend their Christmas and New Year celebrations in happiness,’ Obiano assured.
Obiano’s promise is coming just a day after the wife of a staff of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Mrs Chiazor Chiaghana, raised alarm that her husband, Mr Emeka Chiaghana, who was kidnapped 14 days ago had not been found, with his abductors yet to contact his family.
Meanwhile, Obiano had three weeks ago launched Operation Kpochapu, a joint military operation, which aimed at flushing out criminals in the state during the Yuletide.
Obiano complemented the launch with the donation of several vehicles fitted with high tech surveillance equipment capable of helping in the detection criminals in the state, thus boosting the efficiency of security operatives in the state.
