Foremost educationist and business tycoon, Sir Paul Chukwuma, has restated his commitment to taking Anambra State to the centre of politics in the country, even as he has assured supporters of becoming the next Governor of the state after the November 8 election on his new platform, the Young Progressives Party, YPP.
He would go on to unanimously clinch the YPP Guber ticket in the voting that followed, polling 366 affirmation votes against eight which did not go his way. The election, which was massively attended by supporters and former allies in APC, was held at the party’s secretariat in Awka and was conducted through Option A-4.
It will be recalled that Sir Chukwuma had earlier pulled out from the primary election of his former party, All Progressives Congress, APC, citing irregularities in the process; just as he also quit the party. He had however restated his commitment to actualizing the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The YPP primary election was declared peaceful, transparent, and fair by Bar Vidieno Bamayi, Chairman of the Election Committee, and National Secretary of YPP.
The YPP National Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Bishop Amakiri, praised Chukwuma for his potential to expand the party’s reach and enhance its political prospects.
Amakiri expressed the hope that Chukwuma would bring substantial value to the YPP’s political fortunes.
In his acceptance speech, Chukwuma expressed gratitude to the party and its members, emphasizing the YPP’s foundation on discipline.
He assured that more people would soon join the party to further boost its numbers and strength.
Chukwuma’s exit from APC is viewed by many as injurious to the party’s hopes of winning the election in November, given Chukwuma’s flair, sagacity, popularity and support to APC.
He is now focused on taking over Anambra Government House, urging members of the YPP to rally round him in what he described as a divine mission.
