Mr Valentine Ozigbo, a leading contender in the 2025 Anambra Gubernatorial Election, on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, says he is undeterred by a purported plot to kidnap and assassinate him as disclosed by Evangelist Ebuka Obi of the Zion Prayer Movement Outreach (ZPMO). The prophet had warned Ozigbo who recently left Labour Party, to beware of a plot to have him kidnapped and assassinated.
Responding in a statement issued on Saturday, March 1, 2025, Ozigbo, the immediate past President and Group CEO of Transcorp Plc, said he remained undaunted by the revealed plot, declaring his trust in God and reaffirming his commitment to the political mission ahead.
Ozigbo said he was not afraid, emphasizing that his campaign was divinely inspired and guided by faith.
‘I am not afraid. Our mission is divinely directed, and God is my shield,’ he said.
‘This is not about me; it is about Anambra’s destiny—about a people who refuse to be silenced, about a generation rising against the status quo, and about restoring dignity, security, and prosperity to our land. The need to rescue Anambra from its current decadent path is much bigger than any one individual,’ he stated.
Quoting 2 Timothy 1:7, he further said, ‘God has not given us the spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind.’
Ozigbo also referenced Romans 8:14, drawing on his faith to declare that he would remain undeterred, saying, ‘If there are those who believe that threats or violence will stop this movement for the emancipation of Ndi Anambra, they misunderstand the power of faith and conviction. Our mission is divinely ordered, and, being led by the Spirit, we fear not, because we are the sons and daughters of God,’ he insisted.
A press statement he signed said his remarks followed increasing concerns over insecurity in Anambra State, a key issue in the upcoming election.
He criticised the state government’s delayed response to escalating violence, questioning why action on security only became a priority in an election year.
‘Let me ask: If our government had truly cared, why did it take three years for them to start addressing security? Why did they wait until the election season had kicked in to finally act?’ he asked, noting that the people of the state were dissatisfied, while describing his campaign as a collective struggle, not just a personal ambition.
‘I am simply a vessel in the hands of the Almighty to actualise the aspirations of our people,’ Ozigbo further stressed.
Addressing those who may be involved in political intimidation, Ozigbo urged a shift from fear-driven tactics to constructive engagement.
‘This is not a war of guns or violence. It is a war of ideas. This is a war of light against darkness, of truth against deception, of hope against fear,’ he stated.
Ozigbo extended a hand to those opposing his movement, calling on them to abandon intimidation and join in building a better Anambra, even as he declared his unwavering belief in divine protection.
‘For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God (Romans 8:14). I believe in the promise of Anambra. I believe in the promise of Nigeria. And I believe that God is in control,’ Ozigbo said, urging the people of the state not to be discouraged, as, according to him, the battle belonged to God.
