The Youths of Idemili North under the aegis of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Idemili North Chapter, on Saturday, 24 August, at Idemili North Local Government Area Headquarters, Ogidi, Anambra State, named and decorated Comrade Abuchi Onwumelu of Fides Newspaper as Life Patron of the association.
Speaking on why they chose Comrade Onwumelu as Patron, the Coordinator of Youths in Idemili North, Comrade Godwin Chibunna Echegwo, said after a thorough assessment and careful observation, Comrade Onwumelu came tops in terms of worthiness and being a shining example of youths in the council area and also in Anambra State in general.
‘We have been following his activities. We are proud of him. His approach to issues is awesome. Regardless of his young age. He has impacted so much on the youths of this state. We are more than happy to have such a noble character and personality as our patron,’ Echegwo concluded.
The meritorious service award as patron of NYCN, Idemili North Chapter, was presented to him by the Commissioner for Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy, Anambra State, Hon. Afam Mbanefo.
Speaking shortly after receiving the meritorious service award, Comrade Onwumelu dedicated the award and recognition to youths of Anambra State and by extension Nigerian youths. He thanked the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, for giving youths in the state a chance to prove their mettle and also to contribute their quota in building a better Anambra State.
He appreciated the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, His Lordship Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, for his fatherly love and care.
Comrade Onwumelu further thanked the Awka Diocesan Director of Social Communications and Director of Fides Media, Rev. Fr. Dr. Martin Chuks Anusi, and his immediate Boss, Hon. Jude Atupulazi, for the opportunity given to him to showcase his journalistic skills and to prove his worth.
Onwumelu also commended the NYCN, Idemili North Chapter led by Comrade Echegwo Godwin Chibunna; NYCN, Anambra State Chapter led by His Youthfulness, Comrade Egwuatu Samuel and NYCN in general, for their recognition of him.
