The new Transition Chairman of Anaocha Local Government Area, Hon. Patrick Estate Onyedum, has promised to see to the completion of projects inherited from his predecessor, Hon. Ikeobi Ejiofor, to ensure continuity in the area.
He disclosed this recently while speaking to Fides in an exclusive interview in his office at Anaocha LGA Headquarters, Neni, during the celebration of his 100 days in office
He maintained that out of the three projects inherited from his predecessor, Engr. Ejiofor, one of the projects which entailed the re-roofing of a secondary school’s administrative quarters at Adazi-Ani had been completed and assured that the Afor Agulu Stalls would be completed and handed over to the owners by the end of 2019.
He stated that the completion of the market project at Afor would be one of his greatest achievements, saying that the project, on completion, would be a source of income to most women in the area.
‘When I took over from my predecessor, I inherited about two to three projects from him. One of the projects is the re-roofing of the Administrative Block at Ojiakor Memorial Grammar School, Adazi-Ani.
‘That project, as you heard from the counsellor representing Adazi-Ani, has been completed and is currently in use by the school. Another inherited project that I must look into is the one at Afor Agulu. I hope to complete that project by the end of the year and hand it over to the old women who were making use of the place before the commencement of the project. The market stalls, I believe, would serve as means of income, if not the only source of income to the women,’ he stated.
Hon. Onyedum lauded Engr. Ejiofor’s initiative towards the establishment of the Anaocha Heritage Centre and disclosed that the center, when completed, would help Anaocha indigenes to preserve their cultural heritage.
He also disclosed that the center, on completion, would house the various artifacts which the Anaocha people were known for from time immemorial. This was even as he reaffirmed his commitment to partner with those in charge of the Heritage Project to achieve the initiative behind its establishment.
The LG boss explained that the heritage was not part of the projects inherited when he took over as the local government chairman on 27th June, but he became the one overseeing it.
He disclosed that his vision was to make a difference and bring succor to the people at the grassroots to enable them to feel the presence of government. He vowed to leave a lasting legacy through his activities and projects for people to remember his days as the chairman even after the expiration of his tenure.
Onyedum revealed his intention to embark on capital projects, noting that the intention was dependent on funds released. He noted that projects to be carried out would always justify the fund released for such project.
