The Majority Leader of Anambra State House of Assembly and member representing the Awka South I State Constituency in the 7th Assembly, Hon. Dr. G Nnamdi Okafor, has distributed the second phase of COVID-19 palliatives to his constitutents.
It will be recalled that on the 8th of April, 2020, Hon. Nnamdi Okafor conducted the first phase of same palliatives to the people of Awka South I State Constituency, and this time around extended it to accommodate all his constituents.
The Model Community Children’s Home Ifite Awka; Tender Love Community Children’s Home, Awka; Awka South Executives of All Progressives Grand Alliance; APGA Ward Executives; Awka South stakeholders across party line; 33 Villages of Awka Facebook Group; Awka Na Aso Enwe Foundation Group; Okpuno Youth Forum Group, among others, were beneficiaries.
Distributing the items, Hon. Nnamdi Okafor said he saw the need to arrange yet another outreach mainly to augment support for the first phase, which, according to the feedback he got, delivered greater percentage of the expected reach/results.
His words, ‘A couple of months back, in cushioning the effects of the hardship resulting from the COVID-19 lockdown, I mobilized well-meaning members of the constituency in an effort to provide succour to the vulnerable and those most affected by the situation.
‘This gesture resulted in the provision of food items for thousands of our people. As of today, the effects of the pandemic continue to grow, with tens of cases recorded in the state with its many economic implications for our people. It is not out of place to state that the disease today dwells amongst us.
‘Consequent upon this and to mark my one year in office, I embarked on yet another round of distribution of food items to our people to cushion the effects of the prevailing situation,’ he concluded.
