Anambra State Town Unions Council (ASTUC), has condemned what it calls the brutal murder of a community leader and lawyer, Barr Rolex Ifeanyi Iloakasia, who is also the President General of Aguleri Community in Anambra East Local Government Area.

Barr Iloakasia was reportedly murdered in cold blood, along with his client, by yet-to-be-identified armed men, while returning from a court session held at High Court II, Ekwulobia, on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Nanka-Agulu boundary

In a press release signed by the Chairman of ASTUC, Chief Sir Vin Dike, and made available to journalists in Awka, he lamented that Iloakasia could be hacked down in such a brutal manner and called on the deceased’s family not to panic, assuring them that the perpetrators would be brought to book.

ASTUC which is the umbrella council of leaders of all the 179 town unions in Anambra State, regretted the murder of Iloakasia, who was also their member.

Dike, in the press release, said: ‘We received with chilling coldness and rude shock, news of the senseless and brutal murder of our dear colleague, Barrister Rolex Ifeanyi Iloakasia, the (President General of Aguleri Community).

‘While consoling ourselves, we will equally keep in our prayers, his beloved wife and children, and the good people of Aguleri Community.

‘We urge his family, community, friends and colleagues to maintain calm as investigation is ongoing to uncover the culprits. We must seek solace in our collective faith that he is now in peaceful and eternal rest.

‘Anambra State Town Unions Council shall continue to work with the government and relevant security agencies in ensuring that our communities and Anambra State at large are safe.’

The group described the deceased as a smart, vibrant, and intelligent young man, who had been in the forefront of peace and community development for the betterment of his community, Aguleri.

‘Indeed, we are gravely saddened by this dastardly act of cowardice that has caused a huge loss to the Council, as well as Anambra State. The Council unequivocally and in the strongest terms condemns this barbaric, reckless, and inhumane act of cowardice.

‘As a member of ASTUC he played meaningful and notable roles in driving the affairs of the Council in pursuit of the social and economic development of the member communities. He had just been appointed a member of Capacity Building Committee of ASTUC,’ the Council stated in the release.

The group applauded the State Government and relevant security agencies for their bold steps towards ensuring that the perpetrators of what they termed a heinous crime were apprehended and dealt with decisively.
