The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has condemned what he describes as the senseless murder of Barrister Ifeanyi Iloakasia.
Iloakasia, a lawyer and President General of Aguleri Community, was attacked alongside his client on Thursday, May 15th, 2025, near Agulu-Nanka boundary area of the state.
In a press release, Soludo’s Press Secretary, Mr Christian Aburime, said Governor Soludo not only condemned the assassination, but described it as cowardly.
He expressed his deep condolences to the family and friends of the late Barr. Iloakasia, as well as the people of Aguleri, who, he said, had been devastated by the tragic loss of a man widely praised as a tireless advocate of peace.
Aburime in the release said: “The Governor stated that although this criminal incident might have understandably heightened concerns among the public, Ndi Anambra should be assured that the State Government is taking this matter with the utmost seriousness, working with security agencies to ensure that the fleeing killers are caught and justice is served promptly.
“In a related development, Governor Soludo also acknowledged and commended the bravery of the state security operatives who thwarted an attack on the security checkpoint in Isuofia on May 15, 2025.
“While mourning the loss of one of the gallant officers during the confrontation, it is however reassuring that calm has returned to the area, and security operations have been intensified to ensure the continued safety of our communities.
“Therefore, Governor Soludo deeply empathized with all those affected by these recent sad incidents and reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining the peace and security being enjoyed in the state.
“He also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to cooperate fully with security agencies as we work tirelessly together to eliminate the scourge of violence in Anambra State.”
