A catholic priest of Awka Diocese, Rev Fr. Stephen Okeke has urged all the young ones, especially Catholic students to ask God to teach them to pray. He said this in his homily on Sunday 28th July at St. Theresa’s secondary school Enugwu Ukwu, on the occasion of the school Y.C.S climax action, send off of their former manager Rev. Fr. Justin Nchekwube Ezechukwu, launching of the 4th edition of Limelight Magazine (which is the 4th series of the school magazine), graduation ceremony and prize giving day of teachers and students who excelled in the various spheres of education during the just concluded academic year. “Does God answer prayers? When our prayers are needed in terms of life and living, God will surely answer our prayer. Whenever you pray and God looks at it and sees that it won’t be of any help to you at that particular time of your life, He will withhold it and wait till it’s time for it. There is a promise destined to us by God but our problem is that it is always urgent for us. When your prayer is not in accordance with God’s plan, your prayer won’t be answered. When you don’t know how to pray, you are gone. That is why in the reading of today the disciples of Jesus asked him to teach them how to pray. Learn how to pray, pray for yourself, pray for your neighbors and pray for your enemies for them to repent, because they do not know what they are doing. Note that the highest investment you can do in this world is charity” Fr Okeke said.
Fr Okeke did not spare parents and teachers on prayer. “It is very obvious that our children today don’t know how to pray to God and it’s our entire fault as their parents and teachers. When you don’t do what is expected of you, how then do you expect your children to do what is right? So my dear brethren, let us today ask God to teach us how to pray by saying ‘teach us how to pray oh Lord” Fr Okeke concluded.
In his vote of thanks, the former school Manager /Principal, Rev. Fr. Justin Ezechukwu said he was so surprised when he received a call from the school present manager Fr. John Paul Chukwuelobe, about the sendoff because he left the school since 2017. He said he was very happy responding to the invitation especially, as the foundation he laid in the school is being used. “There is nothing like when you find yourself in a society where you are needed to develop the area and do your best and when you are gone, the person succeeding you will continue from where you stopped, and make sure that the school is moving from strength to strength” Fr Ezechukwu said. He then asked God to continue to bless the school management, parents and the students.
Speaking to FIDES SCHOOL RUN in an interview, the school Manager/Principal Rev. Fr. Chukwuelobe Chinazo John Paul, duly represented in the interview by the school Vice Principal Miss Okekearu Obianuju, advised the students not to let the time that they spent during their six years in secondary school and the time their teachers spent on them to be in vain. Rather that they should work very hard so as to always make the school proud wherever they found themselves tomorrow. However, she said that the school management was very happy and excited about the event because they considered so many things especially availability of the invitees. To the glory of God the weather was clement and everything went well.

The students who excelled in the various spheres of education and behavior include; ‘best behaved’ – Obiano Francisca, ‘Neatest’ – Okeke Esther, ‘best in academics’ – Okafor Kamsolu, ‘best In sports’ – Okeke Anthony, ‘ most punctual – Odoh Chidera and finally the best teacher went to Mr. Uchenna Cartis who teaches Mathematics and Agricultural Science.
The highlights of the event included Moving Encyclopedia, response from Fr. Justin Ezechukwu, farewell song both to the outgoing and to the outgone Manager, cultural dance, award to the teachers and students among others.
