The Chairman of the Nigerian Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP), Anambra State Chapter, led by Dr. Chinenye Johnpeter Obi, has debunked a viral video making the rounds that no surgery was carried out at the newly built and commissioned General Hospital, Ayamelum.
In a statement signed by the NAGGMDP boss and made available to newsmen in Awka, the Chairman called on the residents, to ignore the online video, insisting that doctors actually carried out surgeries and other treatments in the hospital, even as he gave the names of the doctors that carried out the surgeries as: Dr Obi Chinenye Johnpeter, Chairman; Dr Nwokolo Kenneth, Vice Chairman 1; Dr Uchenna Okafor, Vice Chairman 2; Dr Peter Anierobi – Member; Dr. Nwadili Bernard Kachi; Dr. Aguluka Theophanes A.A.
He attributed the video to the handiwork of those he called mischief makers and, who, he said, were out to ridicule what he described as the genuine efforts and achievements of Governor Soludo’s Administration in the Health sector.
‘We proudly affirm that the Solution Governor has delivered beyond expectations in the health sector, making Anambra a model of efficient, accessible, and equitable healthcare delivery. Solution is truly working — and health is thriving in Anambra State,’ he said.
Speaking on the achievements of the Governor in the Health Sector, Obi said, ‘The Solution Agenda of our working Governor, His Excellency Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has brought unprecedented transformation to the Health sector in Anambra State, with a clear vision to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality and to ensure that every Anambra citizen has access to quality and affordable healthcare.
‘Under the leadership of our Hon. Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ben Afam Obidike, the State Government has provided one functional General Hospital in every Local Government Area, ensuring equitable distribution of secondary healthcare services. To further enhance maternal and child health, the government introduced free antenatal care and delivery services — including caesarean sections — across all primary and secondary health facilities in the state.
The medical practitioner recognized that healthcare was only as effective as its workforce, noting that the Governor employed over 350 health professionals and continued to employ more to bridge human resource gaps.
‘In addition, the rehabilitation of access roads leading to healthcare facilities has improved accessibility, especially for rural and hard-to-reach communities.
‘The establishment of the State Ambulance Service System has further strengthened the referral system, ensuring timely movement of patients and tackling the four major delays that contribute to maternal mortality — delays in seeking care, reaching care, receiving care, and referral.
‘In addressing the direct causes of maternal mortality, haemorrhage, sepsis, hypertensive disorders, unsafe abortion, and obstructed labour — the Soludo Administration has ensured the establishment of modern blood banking systems at key General Hospitals such as Umueri, Enugw-Ukwu, Ekwulobia, and Nanka.
‘These are complemented by the modern Central Pharmacy Store and the ongoing provision of free deliveries (both normal and caesarean), making Anambra one of the leading states in maternal and child health outcomes nation
‘In public health and epidemic preparedness, the state’s effective flood response during the 2022 flood disaster stands as a model for others. Through coordinated efforts by the Epidemiology Unit, Ministry of Health, and partners, disease outbreaks were successfully prevented, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of thousands of displaced residents across affected LGAs
‘Furthermore, through the “Solution Know Your Numbers” initiative, the government has championed hypertension and diabetes screening across all communities, significantly reducing morbidity and mortality associated with hypertensive and cardiovascular diseases
‘Today, the results of these interventions speak for themselves. Anambra State stands tall as a shining example of what visionary leadership and a people-centered health policy can achieve.
‘Indeed, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has done marvelously well in transforming the health sector of Anambra State. His record of achievements is evident, not just within the state, but also recognized at the national level,’ he concluded.
