The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Anambra State, Andrew Kumapayi, has described Fides Newspaper as the best grassroots outfit in Anambra State. Kumapayi declared this last Tuesday during a courtesy visit to Fides Media with his team.

The visit was part of the Commander’s familiarization visit to major establishments and institutions in the state, aimed at building better working relationships and better collaboration.

Speaking during the visit, the FRSC boss, who replaced Mr Sunday Ajayi who died in a road crash last year, appreciated Fides Management and staff for their warm reception, wide reportage and reach to the grassroots. He said Fides was one of the best print media in the state which the State Government regarded highly.

He further acknowledged that Fides had been partnering positively with the FRSC, noting that this had helped in spreading safety messages to all, especially the grassroots.

Expressing worry over the incessant crashes involving articulated vehicles, especially tankers, on the roads, he assured the commission’s readiness to work round the clock to keep the roads safe for the yuletide.

Commander Kumapayi commended the State government for the good work it was doing through the desilting and general repair on roads and warned travellers to plan their journeys, avoid night travels, over speeding and to ensure that their licences were updated.

He sought for collaboration with Fides to carry out sporting activities together which could serve as a means of sensitization to Ndi Anambra on road safety.

For his part, the Editor-in-Chief of Fides Newspaper, Mr. Jude Atupulazi, thanked the FRSC team for their visit and their cordial relationship with the media in Anambra State. He also commended the Commission for always being on top of traffic situations, even till the late hours of the day.

While he raised the issue of articulated vehicles and the mishap they had caused the state these past months because of the wrong placement of lights, he called for a national clamp down on such vehicles in order to totally eliminate their menace.

One of the Fides member of staff, Miss Uche Enem, appealed to the FRSC to do something about the cross junctions by building bumps and placing signposts to reduce the rate of car crashes experienced during the day time.

The Fides Director, Rev. Fr. Dr. Martin Anusi, thanked the FRSC boss for the visit and for sustaining the relationship his Commission had built with Fides, dating back to the time of the former Commander, the late Mr Sunday Ajayi. He assured the Command of Fides readiness to partner with the Commission.

Highlight of the visit was the presentation of customised Fides vests and caps with the hashtag, FIDES/FRSC/SAFETY, crested on them.
