The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State Command, says it has commenced a clamp down on petroleum tankers that are not road worthy.

The Sector Commander of the Corps, Mr Andrew Kumapayi, who disclosed this in an interview in Awka, said the purpose of the exercise was to check the excesses of some tanker drivers who caused road accidents with their rickety vehicles across the state.

He charged petroleum tanker drivers to ensure that their vehicles were in good condition before plying the highways, warning them against driving with worn-out tyres.

Mr Kumapayi used the opportunity to advise petroleum tanker drivers to always obey traffic rules and regulations, adding that officers and men of the Federal Road Safety Corps had been empowered to commence a clamp down on lorries with additional lights. He urged operators of such vehicles to remove them immediately or face the full weight of the law as enshrined in the Road Safety rules and regulations.

He also advised petroleum tanker drivers to ensure that official number plates were properly fixed in front of their vehicles as well as at the back.

The State Sector Commander commended the Anambra State Government for the ongoing intervention on some roads across the state, a gesture, he noted, that would enhance free vehicular movement in addition to reducing accidents that might be caused by poor road network.
