By Abuchi Onwumelu

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Ozonkpu (Dr.) Victor Ike Oye, has sympathized with the Catholic bishop of Awka Diocese, His Lordship Most Rev Paulinus Ezeokafor over the fire incident that affected some parts of his office at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral, Awka on Saturday, 5th October 2019.

Also, a group under the aegis of Youths Earnestly Seek Soludo (YESS) led by Comrade Nelson Omenugha last Monday paid a sympathy visit to the bishop.

Speaking immediately arriving the scene of the fire incident, the leader of YESS and a former students’ leader, Comrade Omenugha said they were at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral, Awka to identify with the bishop whom he described as a genuine Shepherd of God’s flock,’ noting that the bishop deserved to be visited and sympathized with.

‘We are here to identify with our bishop and see for ourselves the level of damage caused by the fire outbreak. Anambra Youths are here in their numbers to identify with our bishop. He is the man of people, a friend of the poor and a lover of peace. He is a true man of God.

‘Youths are earnestly working, praying and waiting to see Soludo emerge as the next governor of Anambra State. We want a sound mind as Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo improve on what Govenor Willie Obiano has done in Anambra State. We thank Governor Willie Obiano, who, we heard, had visited the bishop,’ he said.

In a statement signed by the APGA’s Supremo and made available to Fides, Ozonkpu Oye enjoined the Catholic bishop not to be deterred by what he described as an unfortunate incident, even as he urged him to glory in God, whom, he said, made all things beautiful in his time.

APGA Boss who expressed delight with what he described as a responsive and timely visit of the Executive Governor of Anambra, His Excellency, Chief (Dr.) Willie Mmaduaburochukwu Obiano to the bishop said he was not surprised at all.

Fides reports that the Governor was among the early callers that paid the bishop a visit on Monday, 7th October, 2019.
