Last Sunday, May 19, 2024, Mr. Alexander Johnson Adejoh, the Production Manager of Fides, marked his birthday in a unique and heartwarming way. Instead of hosting a grand party, he chose to celebrate with people living on the streets, distributing food and drinks to over 100 less privileged individuals.
The distribution exercise took place at three locations in Awka: UNIZIK Tempsite; Eke Awka; and Aroma Junction. The event was a remarkable display of kindness and compassion as Mr. Adejoh and his team brought joy and relief to those who needed it most.
Rev. Fr. Aloysius Emeka Odogwu, a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Awka and Assistant Manager of St. John of God Secondary School, Awka, graced the occasion with a brief talk on the importance of the gesture by Adejoh before blessing the food items and recipients. He commended Mr. Adejoh for his thoughtfulness and encouraged others to emulate his example.
Fides reports that the recipients were visibly moved by the act of kindness and expressed their gratitude, while also praying for the celebrant. The atmosphere was filled with warmth and appreciation as Mr. Adejoh and his team interacted with the beneficiaries.
Mr. Adejoh explained that he decided to celebrate his birthday in this manner because he wanted to reach out to the less privileged, stating that they deserved all the love in the world. He said it was his way of giving back to his community.
Fides further reports that loved ones of Mr. Adejoh also honoured him by carrying out a similar outreach in his city of birth, Zaria, Kaduna State, where they fed over 130 children living on the streets.
‘The event is a reminder that birthdays can be celebrated in many ways, and that true joy can be found in giving to others,’ Adejoh said.
