The Management, Federal College of Education (Technical) Umunze, Anambra State, on Tuesday, January 21, showered a cash gift on a student, Miss Nnabuife Blessing Chimuanya, for winning a presidential prize of N200, 000 in recognition of her outstanding academic performance. A certificate of Academic Excellence signed by Hon Asefon Sunday, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Students’ Engagement, was presented to Nnabuife for her outstanding academic performance in the College.
Nnabuife, a 300-level NCE student of English/Social Studies, was chosen for the presidential award based on her high grade point average in her first and second years in the College. The award was part of the 2024 International Students Day Celebration by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students’ Engagement.
The Provost, Prof Theresa Okoli, expressed profound joy as she received the young champion during the Management meeting on Tuesday.
The Provost lauded what she described as her impressive academic record in the College and instantly announced a handsome cash reward for her. She noted that Nnabuife’s award had spotlighted the College as a centre of excellence on the national stage.
The Provost said her administration would continue to recognise and reward academic excellence among students. According to her, the present administration successfully led an infrastructural revolution in the College with the provision of modern learning facilities, internal road network, library resources and state-of-the-art students’ hostels on campus.
Prof Okoli urged other students of the College to dedicate more study time to their academic programme and strive to win laurels for the College.
Mr Sam Otti, College PRO, disclosed that Nnabuife’s brilliant performance was discovered from academic records submitted by the College to the Federal Ministry of Education.
His words, ‘As success never hides, it was not a surprise that the young lady got a call from Abuja inviting her to the Presidential Award Ceremony at the Federal Capital Territory.’
