A former lawmaker in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon Paully Onyeka, has alleged a gang up by Anambra politicians to stop former Central Bank Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, from contesting the 2021 governorship election in the state.
Onyeka in a press statement made available to Fides in Awka on Tuesday said some governorship aspirants who afraid of the growing popularity of the former CBN chief had started fabricating falsehood to stop him from the contest.
‘Some aspirants, either overtly or covertly, have declared their intention to run, but a mention of Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo always sends phenomenal jitter on both the biological and political systems of other aspirants,’ Onyeka said.
He said that some of the aspirants running for the governorship seat were looking for ways to discredit Soludo because they feared that his emergence as a candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) would seal the fate of other contestants.
Onyeka said, ‘There is the erroneous belief of other parties/aspirants in the coming election that since the emergence of Soludo as a candidate would automatically cause a shift in the equilibrium of the state’s political system.
‘The much they are doing is to annul the effect of the change by attacking both his (Soludo’s) person and his political structure. They are hoping that by this attack, Soludo would decline interest, but this is indeed day dreaming.
‘Their avalanche of evil machinations come in different forms. Prof Soludo’s moral and administrative sagacity have become to them arrogance, and his enrichment of human knowledge, via his numerous public lectures, made them refer to him as a theorist, but all these will fail,’ he said.
Onyeka said that some other aspirants were working to discredit Soludo before the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, but said what they did not know was that Obiano wanted a credible candidate that would consolidate on his achievements in office, which, he said, only Soludo was capable of.
‘The truth is that Obiano’s achievements are crystal. They are very clear and evident enough, even for the blind to notice. Many landmark projects are either fully completed or ongoing,’ Onyeka stated.
