By Abuchi Onwumelu
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Command, Mr. Andrew Kumapayi, has read a riot act to reckless drivers, traffic offenders, abusers and all those engaging in overloading and overspending, even as he has assured that this year’s Ember months will be hitch-free.
The FRSC Boss who stated this in Awka, said that the command would be all out for those abusing traffic rules and causing unnecessary gridlock on the highways and also those in the habit of making phone calls, getting drunk while driving, overspending and overloading.
Mr. Kumapayi said the command would partner other sister agencies in the state to ensure accident free Ember Months.
The Sector Commander maintained that officers and men of the Federal Road Safety Corps would be patrolling the high ways across the state on regular basis to enable them to monitor total adherence to traffic rules and regulations by motorists.
Mr Kumakpayi disclosed that the Federal Road Safety Corps had become a leading agency in Africa in accident reduction and called on motorists to see the officers and men of the Corps as their friend, by collaborating with them to ensure sanity on the roads.
He said that apart from enlightening motorists and other road users on road safety measures, the Agency equally made recommendations on noticing any failed portion on the highway that could cause accidents to ensure its immediate repair by relevant government agencies to reduce carnage on the road.
Mr Kumakpayi while throwing more light on the role of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the socio-economic development of any nation,, called on those whose broken down vehicles caused obstruction on the highways to remove them immediately, failing which the Corps, would remove them at the expense of the owner.
He used the opportunity to call on the citizenry to cooperate with the agency to ensure total reduction of crashes on the road.
