Drivers’ Welfare Association Distributes 10,000 Face Masks to Members

The Urban Drivers Welfare Association of Anambra State (UDWAAS) has distributed 10,000 face masks to drivers, who members of the association in the State.
Wearing of face masks have been made compulsory as integral part strategy for preventing spread of COVID-19 pandemic in Anambra.

The distribution would be a way of assisting members and supporting government in the fight against spread of COVID-19 pandemic, following relaxation of lockdown in the State.
President of the Association, Mr. Moses Ohanebo made this known to newsmen at the association’s secretariat at Onitsha.

“We want every driver to have the face masks, which has been locally produced and being distributed free of charge.
“This is to enable our members to protect themselves, their families and the society in accordance with guidelines as laid down by health experts,” he said.

Mr. Ohanebo urged all drivers to make use of hand sanitisers at regular intervals and ensure they put on the face masks or risk being denied membership of the association.
“We are here to sensitise our drivers and passengers on precautionary measures to be taken as it concerns Coronavirus pandemic.”

He also reminded passengers to wear their face masks regularly and that was not meant to be kept in bags, pockets or hung around the necks.
The Public Relations Officer of the association, M. Kingsley Adiele said that they had earlier made a cash donation to the State government.
“We have cautioned our drivers to desist from carrying more than five passengers as directed by government.”

Mr. Adiele added that failure to comply would lead to impounding of his vehicle and arrest of such a driver by a Taskforce set up by the association.
A driver, Mr. Sunday Eniani, who received a face mask, said he was satisfied at the initiative, promising to comply with the guidelines.
