As the rainy season has continued to threaten people and building with flooding, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese has warned the people against obstructing the flood channels with refuse dumps, saying that such act is harmful to their health and the environment.

Bishop Ezeokafor, who gave the warning in his homily of the concelebrated Holy Mass for his pastoral visit at St Patrick’s Cathedral Parish, Awka, Anambra State on Aug 4, 2019, kicked against indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

He exhorted all to desist from contributing to flood menace through dumping of refuse in drainages, but instead, they should dispose refuse at designated places, and by so doing, protect the environment for the good of themselves.

The bishop, who cited the recent cases of people’s houses and cars that were almost submerged by flood in Awka and other places in Nigeria, observed that such were due to the drainages which people obstructed with refuse, and the flood lost its channel and made its way into buildings. He noted that proper dumping of refuse would also bring about healthy individual and healthy environment.
