In a bid to complement Governor Willie Obiano’s efforts in ensuring food security and sufficiency for the people of the state, the Anambra Newspapers and Printing Corporation (ANPC), publishers of National Light Newspaper, Ka odi Taa and SportsLight Xtra, has floated an agricultural scheme tagged, ”Ugbo Azu Uno”.
Speaking while conducting people round the farms located inside the corporate headquarters of ANPC, the Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of ANPC, Sir Chuka Nnabuife, enjoined all and sundry to go back to agriculture, even if for feeding themselves alone, emphasizing that those in agricultural business would always be prepared to fight hunger and starvation.
Sir Nnabuife stated that the idea to delve into farming was borne out of the challenges of the COVID-19 which, he said, ravaged the entire world at the moment, even as he said that the establishment had keyed in into the clamour by the governor for food security and diversification.
He announced that the organization thought it wise to diversify, noting that the Management and Staff of ANPC who indicated interest in going into subsistence farming were allotted portions to cultivate on, assuring that Management had created the enabling environment for all those who were serious.
Nnabuife noted that the portions were allotted through balloting, which, he said, saved the organization from unnecessary bickering, emphasizing that many of them had already started cultivating on their respective portions.
The MD/CEO of ANPC paid a glowing tribute to Governor Willie Obiano for leading from the front, saying that the governor’s passion for agriculture motivated and inspired the organization, adding that they would ensure that their staff did not suffer post COVID-19 challenges.
Unveilng the Media Target Forum, “Leaders’ Discourse with Media Leaders”, Nnabuife said it was a forum whereby leaders were engaged by media professionals on topical issues.
He stated that it was a national perspective where leaders occasionally discussed issues bordering on economic, commerce, education, media, administration, industry, transport, among others.
Earlier in a remark, the chairman of the occasion, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture, Chief Paul Nwosu, appreciated the Management and Staff of ANPC for the initiative, saying that the organization had been known for quality ideas and execution.
Chief Nwosu who was represented by the MD/CEO of Anambra State Clear Drainage and Forest Preservation, Hon. Chido Obidiegwu, stated that Governor Obiano’s investments in agriculture had inspired many into going back to farming, noting that the governor’s investments had yielded great fruits.
Nwosu, who described Governor Obiano as a man who saw tomorrow, said his administration was willing to support and encourage farmers across the state, as, according to him, the governor had built many rural roads for easy evacuation of farm produce.
In their separate speeches, the MD/CEO of Anambra Signage and Advertisement Agency (ANSAA), Chief Jude Emecheta, KSJI; the Director General, Digital Entrepreneurship Office, Hon Engr. Ifeanyi Aniagoh; Hon. Chris Obinabo and Hon. Obi Meze, commended ANPC for their courage and steadfastness, describing agriculture as the only way out of in the post COVID-19 era.
Rotarian Aniagoh while felicitating with the Management and Staff of ANPC, described the idea as very symbolic. He urged all to partner with his office for better and efficient farming, announcing that they were working on what he described as E-farm that would enable people to buy and sell their farm produce online.
