By Emeka Odogwu

A four-day, 3rd Session, 6th Synod of the Diocese On The Lake has ended at St Mark’s Anglican church, Ejemekwuru, Oguta LGA, with a heavily loaded communique which bothered on matters of public concern.

In its communique at the Synod which was presided over by the President and Diocesan, His Lordship, Rt. Rev. Chijioke Benjamin Ndidiamaka Oti, PhD, security issues in all ramifications were at the front burner.

The Synod identified with the trail blazing efforts of the Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, in combating crime and insecurity in his State and enjoined other Eastern States’ Governors to emulate him especially as provided in Anambra State Homeland Security law 2025.

Concerning insecurity and widespread violence nationwide, the Synod urged Governors in the affected States to allocate adequate financial and human resources for deployment of advanced technology to combat insecurity and banditry just as security of lives and property is the first charge of every responsible political leader.

The Synod thanked God and the Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma for the return of peace to Agwa and Izombe. Communities,  densely populated communities within its area of jurisdiction recalling that the violence claimed many lives and property that led to stagnation of economic and social activities.

It then appealed to the Governor to assist the people whose houses were touched by Soldiers in Umuokwu Izombe on 8th October, 2021 to rebuild their houses.

On the present situation of unemployment in Nigeria, the Synod decried the weak job creation and limited entrepreneurial prospects in the country and called for a solution as it has hindered the absorption of new entrants into the work force leading to massive emigration and brain drain in search of better opportunities.

The theme of the Synod which was ” Sufficiency of God’s Grace and  the Manifestation of His strength in our weaknesses”.(2 Cor 12: 7-10) was eruditely handled by the guest Preacher, Bishop of Western Izon Diocese, His Lordship Rt. Rev. Victor Okporu just as cutting of the Synod cake and award to recipients and activities  made the Synod thick.
