. . Honours Abuchi Onwumelu of Fides
The Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria (CYON), Awka II Deanery, last Sunday at SS John/Paul Catholic Church, Umubele, Awka, held its 3rd Deanery Convention/2nd Fund Raising for Evangelical Bus and ICT Centre during which it honoured Comrade Abuchi Onwumelu of Fides Newspaper.
He was honoured with the Special Youth Ambassadorial Award for his outstanding performance in the areas of information dissemination and management, work ethics and decorous conduct.
The Award was presented to Onwumelu by the Awka II Deanery Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Kevin Ezemmaduka.
According to the President of Awka II Deanery, Comrade Pascal Godwin, Onwumelu had distinguished himself as one of the fastest rising, committed and focused youths of Anambra State extraction. He described him as a shining example of youth in Anambra State and Nigeria in general.
‘The Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria (CYON), Awka II Deanery honoured Abuchi Onwumelu in recognition of his outstanding roles towards the development of the youth and society.
‘The choice of Comrade Abuchi Onwumelu was overwhelmingly accepted and applauded. We are honouring a young man who has carved a niche for himself, a young man who has done so well in his primary constituency, media practice.
‘He has proven integrity and reputation. His antecedents are well known to us. We are at home with his conduct both online and offline.
‘We arrived at the choice of Onwumelu after careful study of his activities as a Christian and a journalist, public relations practitioner and social media influencer,’ Comrade Pascal Godwin said.
In their separate speeches, the Executive Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on Economic Planning, Budget and Development Partners, Hon. Comrade Tochukwu Obiadi; the Awka Deanery II Secretary, Comrade Nzewi Precious and the chairman, Organizing Committee, Comrade Okoye Christian, and the Organizing Secretary, Comrade Ethelbert Maryann, corroborated the stance of the Deanery president by describing Onwumelu as a worthy representative and true ambassador of the youth and the Church.
The Convention commenced with a Concelebrated Eucharistic Celebration. The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, was the Chief Guest of Honour, while his wife, Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, was Special Mother of the Day.
The Catholic bishop of Awka Diocese, His Lordship Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor was the Chief Host.
