It was a bloody Easter in Awka, Anambra State Capital, last Sunday as suspected cultists went on the rampage killing six suspected rival members.

The killings were done in three different locations in Awka such as Dike Street, Okpuno and Obinagu.

Not all the victims though were suspected cultists as a staff member the state judiciary, identified as Mr Nwofor, was hit by a stray bullet and taken to hospital where he is receiving treatment. It was learnt that Nwofor was going about his normal business when he fell victim to the cult attack.

The rampaging cultists in their numbers reportedly stormed Dike Park Junction, along Zik’s Avenue Eke Awka Market, and opened fire.

According to sources, the incident happened in the day time and further escalated to Obinagu Village where few more persons were also gunned down by the cultists.

A video trending on the social media, showed bodies of two of the persons gunned down in the Dike Park area while one of the victims was seen still turning in pains without help as he lay in the pool of his blood beside his motorcycle where he fell. Passersby were also seen scampering for safety.

Meanwhile, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, when initially contacted, said there was no such report before him.
