The use of thugs by the present Government of Prof Chukwuma Soludo to raise revenue in Anambra State will be anathema in the state under Sir Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party, YPP. Sir Chukwuma stated this during his campaign tour of Mgbakwu in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The current government in the state, it will be recalled, has regularly come under fire for using thugs in the guise of government agents to collect revenue in various parks and markets in the state, leading to loss of life and brutalization of citizens.
But addressing supporters in Mgbakwu, recently, Chukwuma, the Guber Candidate of YPP for the November 8 Election in the state, assured that as governor, he would limit himself within the rules of governance and ensure that he governed according to the law.
The candidate decried the crude means of collecting taxes in Anambra under the current administration, saying that an agency of government known and ‘Ndi Aka Odo; now used pestles to beat up persons in order to compel them to pay taxes.
He said: ‘Under my watch, Anambra will eschew all crude means of coercing taxpayers which are of no effect in Anambra’s internally generated revenue profile.
‘Anambra has a credible alternative in me. We have a commitment to turn Anambra around and bring prosperity to the state again.
‘The Joy Campaign Trail arrived Mgbakwu, Awka North LGA, amidst exciting reception by the people of Awka North. Anambra will vote massively for YPP on November 8.’
