Churches in Anambra State can now open again in the aftermath of the shutdown over the coronavirus pandemic. This is coming after one month since the Anambra State Government announced the ban on worship.
In a statewide broadcast, Saturday, April 25, the governor, Chief Willie Obiano, said churches could now reopen for worship but on condition that the observance of proper hygiene was strictly adhered to by all.
Governor Obiano said worshipers must wear face masks and enforce all WHO guidelines during worship, including, regular hand washing, avoiding handshakes, application of hand sanitizers, social distancing and others.
The governor also announced that movement around the state had been relaxed, stressing however that all boundaries in the state remained closed.
Obiano also directed that all food and drug markets in the state were to open with immediate effect, disclosing that he would meet with market leaders on Monday, 27th April, to fine tune details.
Obiano said he would soon announce dates for the reopening of schools, as well as when civil servants would resume work.
The latest development is coming at a time many citizens are beginning to kick against the continued lockdown.
