Sequel to a publication in the Fides Newspaper titled, ”Catholic Church in Nigeria, Threat to Government’s Misappropriation”, the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has mandated the state’s Commissioner for Health to immediately accept and make use of the Pastoral Centre offered by the Catholic Church as her contribution in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
Fides gathered that the Sokoto State Government, through Dr Mohammad Ali Inname, Commissioner for Health, on Friday, May 9, 2020, inspected the centre offered by the Catholic Church for the fight against coronavirus.
This was made known to Fides via a telephone interview with Margaret Amodu of Bishop Kukah’s Bakhita Media Team, Sokoto Diocese.
Amodu said the commissioner and his team were at the diocesan pastoral centre on two occasions recently to inspect the equipment on ground, noting that the centre would be used as a residence for all COVID-19 health workers in the state.
‘He (Dr Inname) appreciated the efforts of Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah and that of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, for donating generously to the fight against the virus.
‘The commissioner assured Bishop Kukah that with immediate effect the Kingdom House Pastoral Centre would be channeled as residence to health workers in Sokoto State,’ Amodu said.
While urging other state governments to do likewise, she appreciated the CBCN for its position as frontline contributors in the fight against coronavirus.
All efforts to reach the Sokoto State Ministry of Health was abortive as at press tim.
