On Tuesday, 19th August, the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria paid a courtesy visit to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) as part of their professional accreditation exercise. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, alongside the University Management, warmly received the delegation.

The Head of the Department of Nursing Sciences, Dr. Ada Ibekwe, said the Vice Chancellor’s 3V’s had served as a compass guiding the department’s growth and pursuit of academic excellence. She expressed readiness to receive constructive criticism from the accreditation team as part of continuous improvement.

Responding, the Registrar of the Council, Dr. Ndugi Alhassan, expressed profound appreciation for the warm reception, noting that the hospitality extended to the team began even before their arrival. He congratulated Prof. Omenugha on her confirmation as Substantive Vice Chancellor, praying for her continued success in office. Dr. Alhassan further described her as a nursing-friendly Vice Chancellor, applauding what he described as her political will and motherly support for the nursing programme. He remarked that such leadership ensured that students received the best training to safeguard lives and commended the University for creating a conducive environment for learning.

The Registrar also lauded the 3V’s Agenda, noting that it reflected a visionary leadership that aligned with the aspirations of the nursing profession.

The Vice Chancellor, while welcoming them, emphasized the University’s 3V’s — Values, Viability, and Visibility — with a special focus on Values as the bedrock of COOU’s vision. She commended the Council for their efforts in upholding standards in nursing education and urged them to provide candid feedback on both the University’s strengths and areas needing improvement. According to her, the goal was to ensure COOU Nursing graduates would become globally competitive and well-prepared to serve humanity at home and abroad.

Members of the Nursing and Midwifery Council delegation included Dr. Ndugi Alhassan (Registrar); Daughter Sample; Mr. Alex Eze; Mrs. Christiana Dike; and Mrs. Patricia Ngozi Emeka.
