The Vice President, Mother’s Union, Women’s Guild, Girls’ Guild and Young Wives’ Association, CHS Archdeaconry, Awka, Nneora Barr Chioma Egwuonwu, penultimate Sunday, led the women of the Church of The Holy Spirit Awka in a unique, memorable and thrilling love feast targeted at uniting the women better.
Nneora Barr Chioma Egwuonwu ensured that every woman had a gift from the Church and with every one of them exchanging gifts with another to the glory of God.
Nneora Barr Egwuonwu encouraged women to show love to not only their family but to society at all times as builders of a better society.
She thanked the women for supporting her ministry, encouraging them to prepare for Awka Diocesan ADWOC coming up in 2026 to be hosted by CHS Awka Archdeaconry.
The Vicar, Church of The Holy Spirit, and Archdeacon, CHS Awka Archdeaconry, Ven. Dr. Onyeka Egwuonwu, appreciated the women for their tremendous support for his ministry and that of his wife since they arrived a year ago, noting that no church thrived without women.
He asked Christians to be hearers and doers of the word of God by emotionally accepting the word of God.
Earlier in his sermon, Priest Assistant, Church of The Holy Spirit Awka, Reverend Dr Nnaemeka Ezeonyi, spoke on the theme: ”Characteristics of the children of light”, noting that Christians were the lights of the world.
Reverend Dr. Ezeonyi said the world saw through Christians, adding that nobody was born a light until one received Jesus Christ in their life.
He insisted that a Christian was refined with an outstanding character, and the need for them to be used as lights to their neighbours since God was the father of light.
He encouraged Christians to continue to be the light as God’s children and sons of light, pointing out that God’s light had no variation.
Reverend Dr. Ezeonyi listed the characteristics of children of light to include: light not dimming but shining brighter till the brightest, which, he said, could come as passion, equity, justice, fairness, forgiveness, tolerance, cheerfulness and love, among others.
He reminded Christians that people who did not forgive were not light, and people who did not tolerate nonsense were not light because anyone who did not forgive, did not have Christ.
He encouraged Christians to be intentional in positively being different in all they did for humanity, as, according to him, light came through the fruits of the Holy Spirit.
He encouraged landlords to be considerate in hiking house rents as some of them recklessly drove tenants crazy with their outrageous bills.
The highlight of the service was the thanksgiving of Hon Chief Ernest Okafor, alongside his wife, Mrs Ebere Okafor, and members of the family.
The People’s Warden of CHS Awka, Dr. Sir. Solomon Ubani, received prayers for his relentless service to God and humanity at CHS Awka, even as the Church wished him well as he moved on a long vacation abroad and to Law School thereafter. The Vicar said he remained the People’s warden until the next election.
