Christmas, Beyond Earthly Preparations, Bishop Ezeokafor Says at ABS Festival of Carols, 9 Lessons

The Catholic bishop of Awka Diocese, His Lordshop Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, on Friday 13th December, 2019, attended the Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, Annual Festival of Carols and Nine Lessons.

In his homily, Bishop Ezeokafor said that the preparation for Christmas should go beyond earthly preparations to spiritual readiness which constituted the reason for the celebration of Christmas.

The charismatic and ecumenical bishop who was represented by Rev. Fr. Dr. Patrick Umezi, lecturer, Department of Igbo, African and Asia Studies, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, said the opening prayer to kick-start the event.

The event, which took place at its Corporate Headquarters in Awka, was part of the activities lined up by ABS’s management to usher in the feast of the birth of Jesus Christ.

It also featured the end of year party for members of staff of the station graced by notable individuals, captains of Industry, and traditional rulers, including Obi Gibson Nwosu of Awka, Igwe Ben Emeka of Umueri, among others.

Religious leaders like Bishop Ezeokafor of Awka Catholic Diocese, Anglican priests, and government functionaries, friends and well-wishers of ABS, including members of Board of Directors and Management, were on ground to ensure the full success of the event.

The first lesson read by a former Managing Director of the ABS, Sir Amobi Adirika, ushered in beautiful renditions by the Heartbeat Choral Group.

In their separate remarks, a renowned Nollywood chieftain, and member of ABS Board of Directors, Chief Pete Edochie; the chairman of the occasion, Ichie Sunday Ezeobiora, and Obi Gibson Nwosu, appreciated all for their participation, praying God to lead everyone through the Christmas celebration.

In a vote of thanks, the Managing Director of ABS, Chief Uche Nworah, who thanked Governor Willie Obiano for his lofty vision in making the station a world class brand, assured that the station would continue to bring to bear, well thought out programmes and services that would enrich its viewers, especially Ndi Anambra.

He appreciated all those who contributed to the success of the event through sponsorships.

The event was laced with a raffle draw where a good number of members of staff went home with home appliances and electronics donated by different sponsors, as well as registration of some staff members under the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme, ASHA, as a way to lighten up the celebration.
