. . As Michael Atuorah wins Best Students in 11 Subjects

The Catholic Bishop of Awka and the Grand Proprietor of Catholic Schools in Awka Diocese, Most. Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, has expressed his reasons why Catholic schools produce people of integrity in the society. The Bishop who was marveled at the performance of Students at St. Patrick’s College, Awka, made this statement during the 2018/ 2019 investiture of 321 new students and prize giving day to outstanding students on November 17, 2019.
Earlier in his homily, the bishop charged Christians to work on things that are eternal. He charged the new students to remain focused and gain every knowledge before leaving the school. He reminded the students that some of their parents and sponsors strive so hard to ensure that they were in school, therefore, they should not disappoint them by their performance and character in school. Speaking to teachers, the Bishop reminded them of the great responsibility they have to play on the students. He encouraged teachers not to be reluctant in teaching, rather they should derive joy seeing the younger ones grow in knowledge.
It true when people say that ‘leader are not born but are made’. This is evident in the lives of Master Michael Atuorah who won as the Best Student in 11 subjects. Also, Emeka Akabueze, who won the prize as the Best Student in 2019 BECE.
Presenting the Academic Report, the VP Academic Dean, Rev. Bro. Thomas Abonyi, gave conditions for the promotion of students in the school. He gave a review of the BECE results and called out the champions of the 2018/2019 class award and best students of various subjects in the school. In Jss1, Christabel Okeke took 1st position, Juliana Ngwu took 2nd and Felix Anakwuo took 3rd. In Jss2, Kelvina Chidozie clinched 1st position, Charles Obieze took 2nd position and Stephen Ukagha took 3rd position.
Philippa Peters emerged as the best student in Agric Science, Emmanuel Onyewuchi emerged as best student in Literature in English, Chidera Nwambam (Government), Ifeanyi Mbaeze (Best in Igbo Language, C.R.K, Moral Instruction) and Michael Atuorah, emerged as best in 11 subjects. They are; English, Mathematics, Further Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Data Processing, Civic Education, Economics and Geography)
In his remark, the Education Secretary, Rev. Fr. Hilary Nwajagu, commended the school for her academic performance both at the State and National level. He thanked the school management and the PTA Team for their efforts and contributions to the school. He promised his support and to do his best in projecting the school to a higher level
Chairman of the Occasion, Prof. A.G Onwuemesi, represented by his wife, Faustina Onwuemesi, encouraged students to read their books and remain focused in their pursuit. Also speaking, Dr Ray Ofor (Director of Schools, Ministry of Basic Education), pledged his support to the school and promised to place and engage the school in any State Competition. He encouraged parents to keep close eyes on their wards. Dr. Ofor commended the school for fighting against exam malpractice. He promised to ensure that books were donated to the school through the Ministry of Education.
The ceremony came to a closure with a vote of thanks extended by the Manager of the School, Rev. Fr. Celestine Anaekwe. He thanked the bishop, the Diocesan Educational Secretary and other Diocesan Regional Secretaries. He thanked the Assisting Manager, Rev. Fr. Cyracius Okechukwu Ogbuka, the Principals, the PTA members and the Teachers for all their efforts to uplift the school. He thanked all the Academic Sponsors, friends and well wishers for their good will to the school, as he pledged for the support of an equipped and furnished library, ceiling fans and computers.
