The Auxiliary Bishop of Awka Diocese, His Lordship, Most Rev. Jonas Benson Okoye, has issued a template to be followed by couples to ensure a long lasting and successful happy marriage.

Bishop Okoye gave the template at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Uga, Aguata LGA, Anambra State, Saturday, November 9, during the Wedding ceremony of Chinenye Cynthia Ejikeme, daughter to Anambra State former Commissioner of Environment and Beautification, Hon. Romanus Ejikeme, and her heartthrob, Mr. Chinonso Stephen Obidinma.

Bishop Okoye who officiated the wedding ceremony, said that patience, love, respect and prayers were necessary virtues and were key elements in the templates that were required to be imbibed by couples for a sustainable and lasting marriage.

The Catholic prelate who gave an illustration on the type of love and respect that should exist between husband and wife, said it was important for women to organize their homes in such a way that their husbands would always be willing and happy to return after daily work.

He noted that husbands, for their part, should assist their wives to excel in life by helping them discover their hidden potentials and encouraging them to contribute qualitatively towards the growth of the family.

He stressed the importance of faithfulness as a key factor in the sustenance of the unity of spouses and advised that couples should always be consistent in their prayer life, for prayer, according to him, bound people together.

He maintained that a man should love his wife just as Christ loved his Church and gave up his life for the good of the Church, saying that husbands in the same vein should at all times treat their wives as a valuable asset which God had given them. He called on the wife to respect the husband as the head of the home and revealed that the love of the husband and respect of the wife went together and were reciprocal in nature. He stated that the attention of the husband and wife should be on themselves to avoid distractions.

Speaking to Fides, the bride, Chinenye Cynthia Ejikeme, who is a Lagos based Management Consultant, thanked God for the gift of a soul mate and said she looked forward to a happy home filled with love, peace, harmony and God’s blessings. She revealed that her husband’s tenacity, strength, maturity and playfulness attracted her to him.

For his part, Mr. Chinonso Stephen Obidinma, a Lagos based entrepreneur, said it was a thing of joy for him to be married to his longtime friend, saying that they had been friends for seven years. He described his wife as a wonderful person endowed with a heart of gold.

The bride’s father, Hon. Romanus Ejikeme, who was visibly happy for his part, advised the couple to place their marriage above all things, calling on them to desist from the temptation of involving other parties, such as their parents and friends, in their affairs.

The former Commissioner for Environment and Beautification, as well as one time Commissioner for Transport in Anambra State, appreciated God for the success of the celebration and prayed God to bless the union with all good things.
