Ugwu, a community within Awgbu Town in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, was thrown into mourning as the remains of the matriarch of the Nwokoye family, the late Mrs Josephine Nkuomnwa Nwokoye, were laid to rest on Wednesday, September 25, 2024.
The funeral ceremony which attracted top personalities, including the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, His Lordship, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, began with a Holy Mass that was officiated by Bishop Ezeokafor at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Awgbu.
While the Bishop condoled with the family for the loss of their matriarch, he also, during the homily thanked God for the life and times of the deceased.
In commending the efforts of the family members in taking care of their mother at an old age, the Bishop emphasized the need for children to always take care of their parents, especially in their old age. He also added that it was the right of parents to be taken care of by their children and not a privilege.
Mama, whose demise came at the age of 97, was according to the Bishop, able to live that long because of her being taken care of by her children and family members.
The deceased was drscribed by her family members, friends and associates as a devoted Christian who lived through inspiration and emulation of the things of Christ.
Expressing his thanks to all who came to mourn with the family, Rev. Fr. Peter Nwokoye, one of the sons of the deceased, maintained that the life of life his mother was a great inspiration to him and his siblings and all who encountered her. According to him, Mrs Josephine was a woman of faith, love and peace and that these virtues have guided them in their different endeavours.
She was survived by children, grand and great grandchildren.
Among her children are Rev. Fr Peter Nwokoye and Mr Godwin Nwokoye.
