Bishop Ezeokafor Lauds CMO Awka Diocese

By Precious Ukeje

The Bishop, Catholic Diocese of Awka, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor, has lauded the Diocese’s Catholic Men’s Organisation, CMO, saying they have recorded significant achievements since the inauguration of its present leadership.

This came shortly before the reception to mark the Feast Day and Parents’ Day celebrations of Saint Johnbosco Seminary, Isuaniocha, Saturday, January 8, at the school premises.

Bishop Ezeokafor said that from the inception of Uzoh’s leadership, the impact of the CMO had been felt in the diocese. He urged the men of the diocese to support their chairman in every way they could, adding that Rome was not built in a day.

For his part, speaking to Fides, Uzoh made mention of some of their activities and achievements upon which they were recognized by Bishop Ezeokafor.

He said the Catholic Men Organization had a uniform, noting that it was not so before he took over office.

Uzoh also said that they no longer went to the bishop to borrow money, unlike what was obtainable before he became the chairman.

‘We now give money to the diocese rather than go borrowing from the bishop. Last October, I cleared all the debts of the diocese at the conference in Warri,’ Uzoh added.

He further explained that there had been accountability which he described as a major problem before he became the chairman of the organization.

Uzoh said that the Catholic Men’s Organization did not contribute to Peter University, but was able to contribute last year to the tune of 5-million Naira and added that they would do even more in this year.

Listing some of the programmes they had planned for the year, Uzoh explained that men of the diocese under his leadership were ready to take over and be ahead of other organizations in the church that had been ahead of them.

‘We have lots of programmes: retreat for the three regions from 21 – 23 of February; another retreat for the three regions from February 28 – March 1.

‘Fathering Sunday that will end by May 3; Silver Jubilee; seminar for CMO in July; and to cap it all, I will host the national by October at Okpuno,’ Uzoh said.
