…Blesses Equity Law Firm Chambers in Awka
By Daruwana Daku
The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, His Lordship, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, has called on lawyers to jettison logic and embrace truth in the delivery and defence of judicial matters.
The prelate made this call on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at the blessing and inauguration of the refurbished Equity Law Firm Chambers in Awka, Anambra State.
While he commended the priest in charge of the Law Firm, Rev. Fr. Dr. Edwin Obiorah, SAN, for having refurbished the law firm to a more befitting state, Bishop Ezeokafor charged legal luminaries to blend justice with truth. Bishop Ezeokafor also expressed the hope that the legal firm would serve the people with equity and fairness.
For his part, Fr. Obiorah thanked all who came for the inauguration, especially Bishop Ezeokafor, and the Chief Justice of Anambra State, His Lordship, Hon. Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, who, according to him, represented the institutions that governed the Equity Firm.
Fr. Obiorah, who felt elated with the support of priests, lawyers and other judges, also agreed with the call of Bishop Ezeokafor on the judiciary to shun logic and embrace truth at all times.
In lending his voice to the growth of the chamber and the judicial system in Anambra State, Hon. Justice Anyachebelu applauded Fr Obiorah for having a befitting chamber, which, according to him, was needed for his status as a Senior Advocate. He added that the Church had been keen on moral justice through their instrumentality. He however, noted that the Church at every point in time, could not be separated from morality and justice.
Fides gathered that the Equity Law Firm began operation in 2004 under the leadership of His Lordship, the late. Bishop Simon Okafor. The firm’s development had huge demands of office and required the assistance of more lawyers. Knowing that it is a service oriented firm for the poor, the needy and rich, it became necessary for the chamber to be remodeled into a befitting edifice to enable them to better their service delivery and meet up with the demands of clients which are increasing.
The blessing of the remodelled chamber was witnessed by the Chief Judge of Anambra State, His Lordship Hon. Justice Anyachebelu; former judges, magistrates, priests, religious, and lawyers.
