The Catholic bishop of Awka Diocese, His Lordship Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, has awarded a scholarship to the 2019 winner of Lux Terra Foundation Poem Exercise held at Divine Mercy Secondary School, Asokoro, Abuja on the 28 July, 2019.
In an interview, the manager of the school, Rev. Fr. Celestine Anaekwe appreciated the bishop for kind disposition, noting that the gesture would spur his student, Master Chidera on, adding that they were very much prepared to win more laurels for Awka Catholic Diocese.
‘Our target is to produce job creators instead of job seekers. We want to churn out independent minded individuals that will compete favourably with their counterparts all of the world,’ Rev. Fr. Anaekwe said
Lorreto Special Science School, Bubendorf Memorial Grammar School, Adazi and St. Patrick’s College, Awka attended this year’s event from Awka Catholic Diocese.
Bishop Ezeokafor during his visit administered the Sacrament of Confirmation on five hundred and eighty deserving candidates.
In his homily, Bishop Ezeokafor admonished Christians to take matters of faith seriously and also be on the look out for their fellow brethren, exhorting all to think less of worldly things but focused more on eternity, adding that heaven remained his target.
The Cleric emphasized that a true Christian should not be seen engaging in an unholy act, instead, seen, engaging in charity works as well as rendering unreserved service to God and humanity.
Bishop Ezeokafor who is the parish priest of St. Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral, Awka, showered encomiums on the Cathedral Administrator, Very Rev. Fr. Matthew Attansey and the entire parishioners of St. Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral for their relentless efforts in adding values to the diocese.
Admonishing the newly confirmed candidates, Bishop Ezeokafor charged them to always see themselves as soldiers of Christ and as such should not involve themselves in acts capable of bringing the Church, their families and society to disrepute.
He also cautioned them against unbridled quest for materialism.
