Bishop Ezeokafor awards Scholarship to Winner of 2019 Lux Terra Foundation Poem Exercise

The Catholic bishop of Awka Diocese, His Lordship Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, has awarded a scholarship to the 2019 winner of Lux Terra Foundation Poem Exercise held at Divine Mercy Secondary School, Asokoro, Abuja on the 28 July, 2019.

The poem writing exercise took place during the annual leadership training organized strictly for secondary school prefects picked from various schools in Nigeria.

The leadership training centred on fight against corruption featured dancing, running, presentations poems writing exercise, etc.

Awarding the scholarship during his Pastoral visit to St. Patrick’s Catholic Cathederal, Awka on Sunday, 4 August, 2019, Bishop Ezeokafor promised to ensure that the winner of the exercise, Master Chidera Nwambam, an SS1 student of St Patrick’s College, Awka completed his Secondary education without paying a dime.

‘This is a soothing news coming from a school that is not even upto five years. What St. Patrick’s College has now is JSS1-SS1. No SS2 and SS3 at least for now. You can imagine what will happen in the nearest future. We do not joke with a education.

‘I am happy for them. It shows that schools in Awka Diocese are doing well. I’m offering him this scholarship because I want to encouraged him. I will see to it until he finishes his second education here. I will see to that.

A total of 19 schools across the country attended the leadership training organized by Lux Terra Foundation in partnership with Mac Arthur.

In an interview, the manager of the school, Rev. Fr. Celestine Anaekwe appreciated the bishop for kind disposition, noting that the gesture would spur his student, Master Chidera on, adding that they were very much prepared to win more laurels for Awka Catholic Diocese.

‘Our target is to produce job creators instead of job seekers. We want to churn out independent minded individuals that will compete favourably with their counterparts all of the world,’ Rev. Fr. Anaekwe said

Lorreto Special Science School, Bubendorf Memorial Grammar School, Adazi and St. Patrick’s College, Awka attended this year’s event from Awka Catholic Diocese.

Bishop Ezeokafor during his visit administered the Sacrament of Confirmation on five hundred and eighty deserving candidates.

In his homily, Bishop Ezeokafor admonished Christians to take matters of faith seriously and also be on the look out for their fellow brethren, exhorting all to think less of worldly things but focused more on eternity, adding that heaven remained his target.

The Cleric emphasized that a true Christian should not be seen engaging in an unholy act, instead, seen, engaging in charity works as well as rendering unreserved service to God and humanity.

Bishop Ezeokafor who is the parish priest of St. Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral, Awka, showered encomiums on the Cathedral Administrator, Very Rev. Fr. Matthew Attansey and the entire parishioners of St. Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral for their relentless efforts in adding values to the diocese.

Admonishing the newly confirmed candidates, Bishop Ezeokafor charged them to always see themselves as soldiers of Christ and as such should not involve themselves in acts capable of bringing the Church, their families and society to disrepute.

He also cautioned them against unbridled quest for materialism.
