The third session of the Sixth Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Ogbaru Diocese has ended at Saint Luke’s Parish Okpoko with a special Thanksgiving Service.
The Synod which has its theme as ‘Thy will be done oh Lord, not mine’ was attended by the speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honorable Somtochukwu Udeze, and some federal and state lawmakers.
In his charge presented during the event, Right Reverend Prosper Amah, the Anglican Bishop of Ogbaru Diocese, lamented the difficulties Nigerians are experiencing as a result of unfavorable government policies and condemned the Federal Government’s Monetary Policy, characterizing it as aimless and without a clear vision for the nation’s future.
Right Reverend Amah, who asserted that the fundamental role of government is to ensure the well-being of its citizens and effective security of life and property, urged the Federal Government to create a more conducive environment that fosters hope for the masses.
Bishop Amah who is the president of the synod, charged Leaders at different levels to always do the will of God and commended the efforts of parishioners in Okpoko in building a befitting house of God, even as he stressed the need for the sanctity of the church to be maintained, as the only place where Powers are received through prayers.
Right Reverend Amah who expressed satisfaction with the ongoing move by Governor Chukwuma Soludo to make Okpoko a livable, green and prosperous homeland, reassured the Governor of the prayers of the church, to enable him to continue to deliver on his mandate.
Following the presentation of the Bishop’s charge to the synod delegates, the Chancellor of Ogbaru Diocese, Justice Ngozi Oyeka proposed a motion, to adopt the charge as a working document, which was duly seconded by Venerable Nathaniel Egwuenu.
In an interview, the Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Right Reverend Samuel Ezeofor, who regretted that Nigeria is currently in a trying moment without a feasible solution, charged the faithful to look unto God who has the power to change every ugly situation.
Venerable Ken-Paul Emoka, the Archdeacon of Okpoko Archdeaconry and Vicar of Saint Luke’s Parish, Okpoko, and Dame Chinyere Mbakwe, former Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Anambra State, offered thanks to God for the synod’s success and urged participants to put into practice, the insights gained from the synod theme, in their various churches, professional settings and entrepreneurial pursuits.
The Archbishop Ecclesiastical province of the Niger and Anglican Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim in company of over eighteen Bishops and a one-time Archbishop of Niger province, Most Reverend Godwin Okpala, attended the event.
