Ban The Big Brother Show Now!

Last weekend, many of those watching the popular Big Brother Nigeria show on television, must have been shocked by what they saw during a party by the housemates. It was the brazen display of sexuality by many of them. The ladies were seen in half nude wears, dancing seductively before the men who took the liberties offered by the ladies by engaging in acts that should never be shown on television.

Those actions immediately gained traction on social media, with the lurid pictures of the housemates being splashed. It is not as if that would be the first time such would happen.

Over the years, this show has been depicting raw sexual scenes that shocked viewers’ sensibilities, but despite the complaints trailing each Big Brother edition, the show had continued and even becoming worse in terms of content.

What rankles is that at the end of the day, the winners rake in millions for dancing naked and making love openly and generally being a bad influence to the younger generation.

This year, the prize money is N150m and this is apart from other benefits like a car and holiday trip abroad.

Now, juxtapose this with the scenario where gifted students are merely given handshakes, textbooks and money akin to transport fare. Yet, we cry that the country is morally decayed and that our youths abhor hard work. How can they strive to work hard, when they know there are many easier ways to make money?

It is safe to surmise that those women that were seen at the BB party last weekend were irresponsible, but may yet be rewarded at the end of the day for engaging in frivolous acts.

There’s really nothing to learn from this show, except seeing women shaking their bodies, fighting over men and being blase.

If we are a serious country we should ban this programme outright, given the negative impact it has on the younger generation who are always attracted to the programme. Indeed, it is a programme that promotes prostitution, indolence and questionable morals.

When winners of such a programme are treated like stars and portrayed as role models, one wonders the terrible impact it will have on the watching younger generation.

In sane societies hard work is rewarded and people are motivated to work and earn their pay. In Nigeria it appears we are averse to hard work, while feeding fat from the proceeds of hard work by others.

The Big Brother show sends very wrong and dangerous signals to our youth and the longer it lasts the closer they move to their doom.

We therefore demand that the Federal Government scrap this programme immediately and rather promote contents that will enrich the country.

The Big Brother show is nothing but a scandal on tube and should not be allowed to continue. It just serves no useful purpose.
