The chairman of Eke Awka Market, Hon. Emeka Agummadu (aka ‘Baby Awka’), has denied the allegations that he was a financier of cult activities in Awka metropolis.

Speaking to journalists immediately after his release, Chief Agummadu said he was neither a cultist nor a sponsor of cult killings or any related crimes in the state.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, in a press statement, said Agummadu and three others were arrested for alleged cult killings in the area.

Mohammed said the Commissioner of Police in the state led the operation for Agummadu’s arrest.

But at the press briefing, the market leader described the allegation as false and unfounded, and aimed at tarnishing his reputation.

He called on the police to investigate the matter with a view to ascertaining the correct situation.

‘I’m not a cultist and I don’t sponsor cult killings or any related crimes.

The allegation is the handiwork of mischief makers aimed at tarnishing my image. As a philanthropist, I have changed the living conditions of so many Awka indigenes and contributed immensely to the development of the town,’ Agummadu stated.

He pledged to work with the state government in the provision of security in the area.
