The wife of the traditional ruler of Atain in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, Odua Nwanyi Adaeze Ngoddy and her friend Mrs. Pamela Okwuosa Nwailo in their bid to improve the standard of Education and Science Studies in Ogbaru Council Area have again donated second edition of various Laboratory Scientific Equipments and Science Texts Books to some schools in Ogbaru and schools who didn’t receive the first edition last year.
The beneficiaries of the items included; Albert Obiefuna Secondary School, Iyiowa Odoekpe; St. Patrick College Osamalla; Ogbaru High School Ogbakuba; Community Secondary School, Iyiowa Odoekpe; St. Paul’s Secondary School, Ogbuikpere; Josephine Odua Memorial Secondary School, Akiliozizor; Community Secondary School, Atani and Government Technical College, Osamalla.
Anthony Obaze Primary School, Ochuche Umuodu and St. Jude’s Primary School, Atani were Primary Schools who received only text books.
Speaking to newsmen at the event, one of the donors and wife of Igwe of Atani, Odua Nwanyi Adaeze Ngoddy affirmed that this year’s distribution of reading materials marked second years of its kind.
She stated that their next step would be evaluation of the usage of the materials marked second year of its kind, stating that their next step would be evaluation of the usage of the materials through School Principals and Teachers of the schools.
Her words: “I will visit the schools to ascertain the level of usage of the materials by the school. We put level of trusts in what we are doing, the Principals are there, the school teachers are there, the communities and students are there, it will be difficult for one individual to take the materials for personal use”.
She advised the students to understand that they are useful to their parents only when they are educated, urging them to study hard.
In his speech at the occasion, the traditional ruler of Atani, Igwe Augustine Azuka Ngoddy said that he was grateful to God, commending the donors who according to him were capable of distributing education materials last year and be able to do it again this year.
The Monarch commended their ability to source various text books, scientific laboratory equipment and spent their personal resources in shipping them to Nigeria, cleared them, brought them home and distributed to the students, noting that not everybody who lives oversea would do it.
Igwe Ngoddy disclosed that he has recommended the benefactors to go round anytime they visit home and access the impact of what they have been doing, adding that by doing such, it should make their efforts easier and efficient.
In their separate speeches, Rev.Fr. Kenneth Muofunanya, manager, St. Paul’s Secondary School, Ogbuikpere and Dr. Michael Nzowu Chairman Nigeria Union of Teachers, Ogbaru Branch thanked the donors, stressing that they have spent a lot to provide almost what is needed in all the schools in Ogbaru and assured them that the usage of the materials should be adequately monitored by the school authorities.
Also, the organizer of the event, Mrs. Ugenyi Nneka explained that this year’s distribution of school materials was well co-ordinated, revealing that teachers and students are using the books for research and equipping their knowledge.
