Appalled by the assault on a female corps members in Oba, Anambra State, by elements of the Anambra State Homeland Security, known as Udogachi, a leading contender in the November 8 Guber Election in the state, Sir Paul Chukwuma, of Young Progressives Party, YPP, has called on the Anambra State Government to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
It will be recalled that a video of a female corps member serving in Oba Community, Anambra State, had gone viral recently. In the said video, members of Udogachi had stormed her compound, reportedly in search of Yahoo Boys, and descended on the female corps member, beat and tore her clothing and exposed her nakedness.
This had drawn outrage from members of the public, with the Anambra State Government coming out to say the incident occurred earlier but was only made public recently.
Reacting to the incident, however, Chukwuma, who roundly condemned it, called on the state government not to allow it to be swept under the carpet like the ones before it.
‘I am calling on the Government of Anambra State to take a firm stance against these public abusers and bring them to justice.
‘I have watched the video of an assault on a lady by members of Udogachi, a security outfit under the control of the Anambra State Government. The lady whose identity has been ascertained as Ms. Jennifer Elobor, a corps member serving in Oba, Idemili South LGA, Anambra State, was beaten to a pulp and stripped naked by several operatives of Udogachi. Similar barbaric behaviour, like the strange abuse of this lady by members of Udogachi, has continued to be meted out to unsuspecting members of the public in Anambra State, to the chagrin of all sane minds.
‘I am appalled by this absurdity, which has, unfortunately, become the daily experience of Ndi Anambra who are held hostage in their homeland by a security outfit set up to protect them. Notwithstanding, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, the Governor of Anambra State, has never deemed it necessary to call these people to order.
The government’s carefree attitude has further exacerbated the abuse by this setup, always in the news for extorting Ndi Anambra, killing them, or abusing them. Yet, the insecurity in Anambra State has continued to escalate with no clear end in sight.
‘I call on the security agencies to ensure that these abusers are not only rounded up, but are compelled to face the law,’ Chukwuma insisted.
