In a bid to live up to his promise of transforming Anambra State through Infrastructural development, the Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has been consistent in the rehabilitation and reconstruction of both major and access roads in the state, for not just reasons of easing human and vehicular movements, but also to make Anambra one of the best in terms of infrastructure in the country.

Very recently, the governor mandated the agency in charge of maintenance, the Anambra Road Maintenance Agency (ARMA), to begin work on the Onitsha-Enugu expressway which has been a death trap for road users plying the ever-busy road, owing to the bad state it has been in for years now and work has since commenced on it.

Speaking to Fides in an interview, the Managing Director of ARMA, Engr Emeka Okoye, expressed his gratitude to the governor for his humaneness in taking on a federal road project.

His words: ‘The magnanimity of the governor is very striking because it is a federal government road which falls under the purview of the Federal Government. As I speak, work is ongoing at the Immigration/Agu Awka Junction along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway to effect repairs and make the road favourable for everyone.’

While reacting to questions about roads being handled by ARMA in recent times, the ARMA boss confirmed that work was on going in the following roads: Kwatta Abattoir Road; Orlu Road; Ihiala Road (being asphalted and due for completion in a few days); Revenue House Junction along the Onitsha-Enugu Expressway (already being re-asphalted, with the agency currently doing a brand new car park at the Jerome Udoji State Secretariat.

He applauded the governor and the ARMA Workforce for toiling day and night to make that dream a reality for not just the people of Anambra, but for all who plied the road
