Anaocha LG to Organize Education Summit for Senior School Prefects Soon

By Michael Nnebife

The Mayor of Anaocha Local Government Area, Anambra State, Comrade Romanius Ibekwe, said the local government by next year, will organize an education summit for all the secondary school prefects and functionaries in the area to catch them young for quality leadership.

The Mayor made this disclosure while having a chat with newsmen when the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Paulinus Ezeokafor, paid a visit to St Anthony’s Catholic Comprehensive Institute, Agulu, recently.

The Anaocha Mayor, represented on the occasion by the Local Government Supervisor for Education, Hon John Paul Oforma, and the Councilor representing Agulu Ward II in Anaocha Legislative Council, Hon Amobi Okeke, thanked Bishop Ezeokafor for what he described as the impressive contribution of the Diocese in the Education Sector in the area.

The Mayor recalled the development the local government under his watch had put in place in the area within a short period of three months.

‘Currently, we’re training over 500 youths in various skills; we’ll empower them too after the training.

‘Coming to education, Anaocha Local Government is planning to have a massive Education Summit in 2025 for all the secondary schools in Anaocha Local Government,’ he said.

He said the aim of the summit was to get all the secondary school leadership, the school prefects and other functionaries, trained on quality leadership skills.

‘They are the future leaders of this country; if we start now to train them and get them young for quality leadership, it will be better for the country in the  near future,’ he said.

The Anaocha Mayor also extolled Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his achievement in the education sector.

He said, ‘Soludo is doing marvelously well in the Education sector. On assumption of office, he got the Education Sector in Anambra State transformed.

‘He has employed over 8,000 teachers, declared free education from nursery to Senior Secondary Three, and continues to do more,’ he said, while describing Governor Soludo as an innovative and visionary leader.

The Mayor further recalled that Anaocha had a mass transit company which had been abandoned for over 30 years or more.

He however disclosed that just three months ago, he went to Abuja to register the abandoned Anaocha Mass Transit.

‘Soon, it will commence work to ease the transport challenges facing Anaocha People and ndi Anambra at large.

‘A lot of plans are on the pipeline, the buses are coming,’ he said, adding that parks had been secured at Upper Iweka, Onitsha; at Nwagu, Agulu; among others.

The Anaocha number one citizen therefore, appealed to Anaocha People and the larger Anambra to support the All Progressives Grand Alliance-led Government for more holistic transformation and development, expressing optimism that by the time the ongoing Nwagu-Ekwulobia Road dualization was completed, Agulu would become one of the commercial hubs of the state.
