. . Reaffirms Commitment, Seeks to Collaborate with Stakeholders

The Transition Chairman of Anaocha Local Government Area, Anambra State, Hon. Patrick Estate Onyedum, has clocked 100 days in office as the LG Boss of Anaocha sequel to his appointment.

Hon. Onyedum who was appointed as the Transition Chairman of Anaocha LGA by the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano on 27th June, clocked 100 days in office on 6th October.

The celebration of 100 days in office which was held on Monday, 14th October, at Anaocha LGA Headquarters, Neni, presented an opportunity for the LG boss to seek the opinions of the stakeholders on some of the projects which had been embarked on.

Addressing Anaocha stakeholders, Hon. Onyedum recalled that during his inauguration as the TC Chairman, he expressed uncertainties about his abilities to fill his predecessor’s shoe which he described as enormous. He noted that with the ongoing projects he was executing, he hoped to surpass his predecessor’s achievements.

He however commended his predecessor, Hon. Ikeobi Ejiofor, on the numerous human impactful projects which he carried out during his tenure and expressed commitment towards the completion of inherited projects for the good of the people.

He appreciated the contributions of various individuals and key officers in the LGA, saying that the support which he received from them gave him a soft landing and assisted in the projects carried out in the past 100 days. He revealed that the facelift given to the administrative complex immediately after he took over as the LG boss was geared at increasing the workers’ productivity. He said that with the provision of toilet facility, water, light, tables and chair among other projects in the office complex, the workers would be motivated to work harder in order to bring out the best in them.

Onyedum enumerated some of the projects carried out within his 100 days in office to include construction of culverts at Mgbuwa, Ifite Village, Aguluzigbo, Obe Village in Adazi-Enu, repair of Borehole at Anaocha Secretariat, renovation of security post at Anaocha Secretariat, renovation/repainting of bus stand/entrance of LG Secretariat and reconstruction of Anaoche bill board.

Others include re-roofing of the administration block at Ojiakor Memorial Grammar School, Adazi-Ani, re-fencing of collapsed fence, construction of drainage, reconstruction of staff/visitor’s restroom and reconnection water system all in Anaocha secretariat. He disclosed that the LG vehicles which were grounded when he took over had all been fixed.

In the health sector, the LG Boss, said that health post at Amoji Village, Agulu1 and Primary Health Centre at Ifite Agulu had been commissioned. He stated that distribution of exercise books and organization of free lessons to Anaocha students during the holidays were to beef-up the educational sector.

Speaking to Fides, Hon. Charles Azubuike Okoye, commended the new LG boss of Anaocha for the projects carried out within a space of three months and maintained that some LG chairmen could not celebrate their 100 days in office because they had no score card to present.

He described the peace restored in the LG as the greatest achievement of the LG chairman and expressed optimism that the LG boss would reach a greater number of masses in the grassroots with increased allocation from the State Government.

Also Speaking, the President General, Association of Anaocha Indigenes in Lagos, Hon. Chris Ilozumba, expressed his satisfaction on the number of projects which had been executed by the LG chairman. He noted that the LG boss had shown signs of a good leader and called for the sustenance of unity which was enthroned sequel to his appointment. He said there was need for the new chairman to maintain and consolidate the achievements recorded by his predecessor in the LGA.

For his part, the Special Adviser to Governor Obiano on Political Matters, Hon. Johnbosco Olisa Onwuatuegwu, while commending the LG chairman on the pace of projects, called on the council members to give the LG boss maximum support, even as he disclosed areas of need to the LG boss for necessary action.

He advised the new LG chairman to pay deaf ears to gossip but to focus his attention on the task ahead.

The chairman, National Union of Local Government Employees, (NULGE) in Anaocha LGA, Comrade Chikwelu Adigwe, described Hon. Onyedum as a man of action who was greatly committed to transforming the condition of the people. He said the ability of the LG chairman to listen to people and take advice would make his tenure to be different.
