The Chairman of the Electoral Committee for the Anambra State People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Congress and Deputy Governor of Enugu State, Mr Ifeanyi Ossai, has announced the postponement of the congress that was initially scheduled for today, Saturday, October 19, 2024.
Ossai’s announcement was conveyed through the Committee Secretary, Mr Ndubuisi Ene, during a media briefing shortly after a stakeholders meeting held at the PDP State Secretariat Complex in Udoka Housing Estate, Awka, on Saturday.
According to Ene, the postponement is intended to address certain challenges that could undermine the fairness and transparency of the process.
He commended the stakeholders for their patience, support, and understanding, while also announcing that the congress will now take place between Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday of the upcoming week.
In separate remarks, the acting Chairman of the party, Engr. Chigozie Igwe, alongside former State Chairman Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu, former Minister of Women Affairs Chief Josephine Anenih, and the two chairmanship candidates, Mr Chidi Chidebe and Mr. Ameachi Onowu, emphasised the need for a credible, free, and fair congress to promote unity within the party.
They also appealed to Enugu State Governor, Mr Peter Mbah, to provide financial support to the Anambra State Chapter of the party in order to cover the costs of food and drinks for the 3,000 delegates, as well as the 50,000 security personnel and media expenses for the congress.
