The Police Command in Anambra has announced the arrest of a suspected gunrunner on June 15 around 1:30 pm, along Niger Street, Onitsha, during a patrol by police operatives attached to the Fegge Division.
They gave the name of the suspect as Felix Owaya, aged 48, who hails from Ika South LGA of Delta State. Three hundred and Seventy-Five live cartridges were recovered from him, a press statement by the Command’s PRO, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, disclosed.
According to the statement, during interrogation, the suspect confessed that he was sent by one Mr Charles Ogboma to a man he was yet to mention to collect the ammunition. It said that investigation was still ongoing.
‘The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, while commending police officers who made the recovery for their vigilance and tenacity of purpose, directed all personnel in the Command to sustain the tempo of crime prevention and detection in the service of the people of the state,’ the statement concluded.
