The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, has elected a new executive that will pilot the affairs of the party for the next five years, with Hon Chidi Chidebe, the new state Chairman, assuring that his leadership will restore the dignity of the party.

Hon. Chidebe emerged winner after polling 1,080 votes to defeat his opponent, Amechi Onowu, who got 960 votes, at the PDP State congress held recently in Awka, Anambra State capital by a Congress Committee led by Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, the Deputy Governor of Enugu State.

Speaking shortly after his emergence, Hon. Chidebe assured that his leadership would restore the dignity of the party.

According to him, the administration would reconcile, register more members and embark on grassroots campaign aimed at winning back the heart of the public.

The new Chairman, who described his victory as an act of God, extended a hand of fellowship to his opponent, assuring that they would work together towards ensuring that the PDP bounced back to power in Anambra State politics and beyond.

Chidebe had at the inception of his campaign for the chairmanship office launched a five-point agenda, centering on reviving, rebuilding, and repositioning the PDP for a victorious future, with many derivatives, including clear, measurable steps, concrete programmes and action plans for a successful implementation.

The women’s leader of PDP, Mrs Calista Adimachukwu, assured that the party would move on for grassroots mobilisation.

The Vice Chairman, Central, Olisemeka Chukwukelu, said they were ready for the next election in Anambra State, noting that PDP was back and well positioned.

The former youth leader promised to reinvigorate the party, restore confidence among members, and ultimately lead them to success in both the 2025 Governorship Election and the 2027 General Elections.

The agenda included strategies to promote unity, enhance party structures, strengthen relationships with national leadership and grassroots members, foster accountability, and drive grassroots mobilization efforts that will bring them back electoral success.

The Agenda 1, in the manifesto, is based on Rebuilding Internal Unity and Party Cohesion, aimed at healing divisions, fostering collaboration, and establishing a united front across all levels of the party within 30 days, with regular stakeholders meetings and conferences; while the second agenda, entitled, ”Strategic Grassroots Mobilization and Voter Engagement”, is set to re-energize the party base and increase voter turnout by reconnecting with communities at the grassroots level. This, it was gathered, would be achieved within 6 months of taking over.

Agenda 3 of the manifesto is ”Strengthening Synergy with National Leadership and Enhancing Local Government and Ward Relationships”. The objective is to create a harmonious and effective relationship with the national leadership of the PDP, while fostering deeper engagement and cooperation with local government and ward leaderships across Anambra State, and would be achieved in 30 days of taking over.

His agenda 4, ”Financial Transparency and Resource Mobilization”, has its objectives as enhancing transparency and accountability while mobilizing resources for the party’s electoral campaigns and administration, and will be implemented within 2 months of taking office; while the fifth agenda, ”Governance Accountability and Policy Advocacy”, is aimed at holding elected officials accountable and positioning the PDP as the voice of the people in advocating for good governance and impactful policies.
