Anambra Journalists Mourn Late Colleague, Nneka Anoliefo

By Jude Atupulazi

Journalists in Anambra State were Wednesday morning thrown into mourning, following the arrival of the body of their colleague, Nneka Anoliefo, at the premises of the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS).

The late Anoliefo, an amiable lady who worked for ABS, covered and reported the traditional institution for the company while she was alive.

Her death was reported late last year, after a brief illness.

She became popular years back, after she reportedly picked a large sum of money at the Anambra State Traditional Rulers’ Council Secretariat at the government house and returned it to the monarch who owned it.

She was afterwards awarded the title of Ada Ndi Igwe, which means daughter of all traditional rulers in Anambra State.

The arrival of her body at the ABS premises sparked off mourning, wailing and anguish among journalists.

Her colleagues who received her body were dressed in black as a sign of mourning.

Rev Canon Basil Orji who conducted a short sermon at the premises of the company described the deceased as very amiable and social.

He added that even though the deceased might have had what he described as a chequered marriage, she might still be granted eternity, especially as her sincerity spoke for her, as it had to do with her conferment of the title of Ada Ndi Igwe by Anambra monarchs.

He also added: ‘For those who are yet to be married, this is a call for you to make inquiries before you get married. Marriage is an institution.

‘As for the daughters here, I assure you that the marriage your mother experienced would not prevent you from attaining and enjoying good marriages.’

The late Nneka had in her lifetime been separated from her husband and had to fend for her two daughters alone.

Meanwhile, staff members of ABS and other colleagues who spoke attested to the fact that she was a good woman.
